Stony Ground

No. 211

Stony Ground is a great alternative to Old White, being less green and more beige. It has a slight underlying red but is not as warm as Oxford Stone. Stony Ground is the perfect choice if you want a stronger neutral with no particular bias towards red, blue or green. It combines well with the lighter Shaded White or stronger Mouse’s Back. Mid Tones Undercoat.

Very Chic Neutral - Both classic and contemporary We love this color for the interiors of our house. It is a great chic warm neutral. it works with our contemporary rugs and furniture as well as our antiques and art. Like all paint colors it changes with the shadows and the rooms- making it more enjoyable all times of the day. It looks great in every room. I tried many Farrow and Ball colors as I wanted the perfect neutral in a mid tone base and we are super pleased. 02 April 2015
Very thin paint I had to order another tin of paint as even after two coats the coverage looked patchy and thin, even though it was done by a professional decorator. He noted that the paint quality has gone down recently. 07 May 2014
Great all round colour and choice I love Farrow & Ball paint for both the extensive range of colours available and the ever changing palette of the shade chosen, as dictated by the light and shade in whichever room it is used. Stony Ground appealed to us after a good few years of Hound Lemon, which is also a lovely shade, but we wanted to change to a more muted colour so that the items in our living room worked well together. Stony Ground has proved itself to be just what we were looking for because it seems to have a colour all of its own, but also takes on overtones of blues, greys and beige, which is dependent on the colours in close proximity. Would recommend a base coat as we didn't use one and we had to use three coats of paint instead and a lot of hard work to get the desired result, but worth all the effort to get what we now have. 28 April 2014
The perfect neutral for every room... We've tried other paints but none are ever as good as F&B, and the colours just work so well in our house (Georgian). This particular tone just keeps on being useful - we've come back to it over and over, for our sitting room bookcases (combined with creamy neutrals and black accents), dining room chairs (soft grey-greens and taupes), our little girl's bedroom furniture (combined with cream, soft pinks and lilacs), our main bedroom furniture and the en-suite bathroom woodwork (in a palette of pebble, pearly grey and silver), the nautically-styled cabin bed/wardrobe in our little boy's room (taupe, light blue, navy blue) and for vintage furniture in a guest bedroom (with natural linens and charcoal grey accents). It just seems to go with everything.... fabulous 26 April 2014
This color is so calming, it is especially lovely. To lighten the color a bit we mixed 10% All White with it and got a beautiful tone down version. 06 April 2014
I love all Farrow and Ball paints Farrow and Ball is my "go-to" paint company - love the quality, love the colors and when taking on a serious painting project I always buy your paint. 04 April 2014
Great colour and finish - exterior eggshell Very helpful service in the Fulham Rd shop. The door is the same colour as the shop with contrasting Stony Ground. 26 March 2014
A very versatile colour A friend recommended this colour for a traditional cottagey look and it didn't disappoint. It looked slightly green in my north west facing bedroom but looks almost grey in a dull light. It's a warmer colour than the true greys. I have painted an old trolley and an orange pine shelf in the estate eggshell and both look really beautiful. The paint is easy to use being water based, and the brushes clean up very easily under warm water. Needs about 3 coats for the best finish I found and I used a white chalk undercoat first. 08 February 2014
