Farrow & Ball sponsors new Musée Magritte Museum

Farrow & Ball has teamed up with the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium to support the new Musée Magritte Museum. The Museum is in the heart of Brussels and will contain the world’s largest collection of Magritte works, when it opens to the public on the 2nd of June 2009.
The Musée Magritte Museum will be a permanent exhibition dedicated to the work of René Magritte (1898-1967), the famous Belgian artist, and will cover every period of his life. In a landmark building on the Place Royale, 2,500 metres of exhibition space across five floors will be dedicated to displaying over 200 mixed media art works. These will comprise Magritte works from the Royal Museums’ extensive collection as well as paintings on loan with assistance from the Magritte Foundation.
Farrow & Ball paint colours have been chosen by the Museum to adorn the walls and create a stunning backdrop to this prestigious display. They include the rich, dark Farrow & Ball colours ‘Tanner’s Brown’, ‘Studio Green’, ‘Down Pipe’, ‘Pitch Black’ and the fresh neutral ‘Wimborne White’. Providing a depth of colour and flawless finish, the paint colours will be used throughout the entire building, with different colours on each floor, creating the perfect backdrop to enhance the stunning works of art.
Farrow & Ball has also created a bespoke colour for the project named ‘Bowler Hat Blue’ which has been inspired by a colour frequently used by Magritte in many of his famous paintings. The Farrow & Ball colour will feature on the first floor of the exhibition, and for a limited time 100ml sample pots of the colour will be available to buy at the Farrow & Ball showroom in the Grand Sablon in Brussels.
The Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium is working in collaboration with the GDF SUEZ Group and the Magritte Foundation to bring together this unique collection of Magritte art. Set to become one of the most important cultural centres in the European capital, The Musée Magritte Museum is expected to attract in excess of 600,000 visitors.
Farrow & Ball has previously worked with The Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium in support of previous exhibitions including ‘British Vision: Observation and Imitation in British Art 1750 -1950’ (2007), ‘Rubens, A Genius at Work’ (2007), and ‘The British Royal Collection – From Bruegel to Rubens’ (2008).
